The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Biodiversity Agency, in partnership with the region’s five Regional Nature Parks, organizes an annual series of “Biodiversity Encounters” focused on pollinators and best practices to support them.
The theme chosen for this first edition was the ecology of wild bees: “What do they look like? How do they live?” The goal was to introduce these often-overlooked pollinators to the general public and highlight the vital services they provide to ecosystems through pollination.
To kick things off in a playful way, the theater company Compagnie 24.92 performed the play “For a Handful of Pollen”, specially created for the occasion.
“After a chemical accident, Paul — an ordinary, unremarkable guy — finds himself shrunk down to the size of a bee and ends up living among them. Deeply affected by their struggles, he returns to the human world as their spokesperson and advocate.”
Through Paul’s adventures, the audience discovered more about these wild pollinators. The creative and entertaining approach appealed to both young and old alike!
Between November 12 and December 16, 2022, a little over 150 people took part in these events across Nouvelle-Aquitaine!
